Zipre Zipreko uhartea (hala esan behar omen zaio euskaraz) zatituta dago bi hizkuntza komunitateren artean: grekoak eta turkiarrak.Ofizialki, Zipreko Errepublika (Kipriaki Dimokratia grekeraz) da Nazio Batuek onartutako entitate ofizial bakarra, eta burujabe da teorian uharte osoan. Egiazki, ofizialki elebiduna da estatu horrek Zipre hego-mendebaldeko bi herenak soilik okupatzen ditu, eta zatiketa gertatu zenetik ia osoki greziarra da (586.000 biztanleen %95). Zipreko turkiarrek 1975ean ipar-ekialdea askatu zuten, Turkiaren laguntzaz, eta han orain Ipar Zipreko Errepublika Turkiarra dute eratuta (Kuzey Kibris Turk Cumhuriyeti turkieraz), Turkiak salbu inork errekonozitzen ez duen estatua. Entitate hori osoki turkiarra da orain (178.000 biztanleen %98,7%). Bi entitateen hiriburua Nikosia da, zatitutako hiri bat. Ipar Zipre ez denez lurralde ezagutu bat, mapetan izan greziarrak edo historiko-kolonialak ageri dira soilik, eta ez han orain nagusi den turkierazkoak. Horien zerrenda bat dugu guk hemen. Ikus beste gutxiengo greziar eta turkiar batzuk hemen. |

Cyprus The island of Cyprus is divided between two language communities: Greeks and Turks. The recognised UN member, the Republic of Cyprus (Kipriaki Dimokratia in Greek) is the Greek part, and it occupies two thirds of the island. Officially this republic is a bilingual state, and it is sovereign in the whole of Cyprus, but the northeastern part secceeded in 1975 and now constitutes the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (Kuzey Kibris Turk Cumhuriyeti in Turkish), an entity only recognised by Turkey, but functioning de facto as an independent state. As a result of this division, the Greek part is almost totally Greek (95% of the 586,000 inhabitants) and the Turkish part almost totally Turk (98,7% of the 178,000 inhabitants). The capital of both entities is Nicosia, a city divided by a wall. As North Cyprus is not a recognised territory, most maps don't depict it and placenames are listed in Greek or in the historic-colonnial forms, instead of the Turkish names that are really used there now. We have here a list of placenames for North Cyprus. Check other Greek-Turkish minorities here. |
