Hello. You did a wonderful job with the website. My G grandparents lived in Ashland. They were Nazaire Courtois and Sophie Hamel. Sophie died July 8, 1889(I think as the result of childbirth, since there was a baby listed as dying in 1889) and is buried in Ashland, but I don't know which cemetery. I do have a photo of her gravestone...it shows a lot of open spaces. I have no idea where Nazaire Courtois died, but I guess he could have died in Ashland too. I would like to send you this photo, but I don't know how to put it in here. Thank you, Susan McAtee mcatee1@prodigy.net

Hello Mr. Hicks, I graduated High School in Ashland in 1975. I was the chairman of the Bi-centennial cemetery restoration committee in 1976,with much help from Doris and Tate Tatham. We went around to the old cemeteries cleaning up and repairing the stones. We had different volunteers for each project. I remember Punky Marsh and Tate teaching me how to carefully drill and pin an old headstone to repair it. Then use epoxy to hold it together. We would cut out all the brush that had grown up within the boundaries or walls and in the process find head and footstones covered with dirt& leaves. It was a very memorable experience. Before that time I had found out about Reuben Whitten, who had saved his neighbors during the summer that wasn't( 1816? )by distributing grain that he grew when others crops had failed. I think that this story, and others have given me a love of history. I like what you have done here, I only lived in Ashland for 18 years, but I will always cherish the memory. Thanks, Lance

Great Web site! I was pleasantly surprised to see the photo of Madge Pease, who was my great aunt. I spent a lot of time at the 3-story hotel (since burned) that she and other members of my father's family used to operate at the west end of Little Squam Lake.

Hi Bob; Very impressive web site you have here! You have done a lot of work and the photos are wonderful. I sure wish all of our cemeteries looked as good as yours. I am still in disbelief that people can take the stones and use them in basements, swimming pools, etc......have they no respect? Thanks for sharing. Mikki Judge, Buff

Robert, I'm impressed with your Ashland site and the photography and all the imformation there. You'd done a lot of work. Good job and I'm sure many people will be as impressed and grateful for the work you've done as I. I'll just visit now and then t eventually see it all. You live in a beautiful area of the US and I'd be envious except that my family is here in Kansas and given all it's wheat fields and tornadoes, it too is pretty impressive...it's just that Kansas isn't as beautiful as other place . Thanks for the web page and all the work. Alice
