The Odd Couple
The Odd Couple was a pub/lounge act consisting of Randy Raban on guitar and
myself on base. At the time, we both worked at Manitoba Hydro. We performed as
a duo at most venues but occasionally took on a drummer in clubs having dance
floors, performing as the three piece group called Raccoon. The group’s repetoir was mainly
country and soft rock.
As a duo, comedy was a large part of the act. One of our
most requested numbers was 'Wipeout'. Having no drummer, the drum solo parts
were dead silent. The patrons however, would take it upon themselves to 'fill in' by pounding
on the tables with their hands and/or beer glasses. Pub managers loved watching glasses
fall to the floor as tables rocked to the sounds of dozens of auditioning drummers.
Randy and I were a team for approximately 5 years in the late 70's.

Bottom right - The Odd Couple always travelled first class, usually via Randy's gold Caddy.
