Chapter
History
In the spring semester of 1989, Sigma Kappa National Organization held an 'informal' Rush at Arizona State University. The Theta Omicron Chapter chose 120 women to become colony pledges. On April 30, 1989, the first Theta Omicron initiation was held at Westcourt in the Buttes Resort.
We have won many awards throughout our time on campus. We received awards at theGreek Sing during Greek Week three times. Also during Greek Week, we won a total of two Excellence Awards. We also have cleaned up at philanthropy events such as Lambda Chi Alpha's Watermelon Bust and Sigma Nu's relays as well as earning many awards in intramurals. Our latest award was the Spirit Award at Phi Kappa Psi 500 philanthropy. We hold our own philanthropy which is called "A Kick in the Grass." It benefits Alzheimer's disease.
Week of giving is also a fun time for us to give back to different parts of the community. For the past Week of Giving events we have done the following: sold lollipops for Alzheimer's on campus, played bingo with residents at Friendship Village, decorated Friendship Village for Thanksgiving, baked cookies for all sororities and fraternities, and volunteered for Safety Escort Services, a ASU sponsered service to protect student.
Founder's Day is another fun event for us at ASU because we get to travel to the University of Arizona for lunch with our sisters from the Zeta Omicron chapter. Every year we switch which chapter hosts the luncheon.
When we are not winning all our awards, we enjoy bonding with sisters by doing many different activities. Every fall we go up to Friendly Pines in Prescott for a weekend of fun, food, camping, and fireside chats. In spring we usually attend a one day retreat. In 1997, we had a great time playing paintball. We also have a formal each semester and a few date parties which are always a blast.
The Theta Omicron Chapter has had a great ten years on the ASU campus and we can't wait to celebrate our Anniversary on April 30, 1999. Alumnae will be flying in from all over the United States to help us celebrate. Our chapter has changed greatly along the way but what has not changed is the way that we live...One Heart, One Way!
