BIOGRAPHY
Fern, CEO of Fern Forest Enterprises, is a lively, lighthearted mother of three who has dedicated her life to children as an entertainer, songwriter, musician and teacher. With a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and certification in Elementary and Music Education, she works with an extensive board of advisors as well as several colleagues including a children's author, an illustrator and a toy designer.
Fern received her degree in Early Childhood Education from North Adams State College in North Adams, Massachusetts.
Fern always had an inner desire to perform. She started with dance classes at age 5, and at 9 years old she began taking organ lessons. By the time she was 12 she was playing the organ for public functions. She decided to go to college to become a teacher because she loved children.
Upon graduating, Fern became the Head Teacher at Kiddie Care Nursery School. Fern immediately began implementing music into all of her lesson plans using several instruments such as guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet, piano and banjo. She then realized that she had created enough materials to record her own album of children's music. That is how Fern Forest Enterprises was born in 1989. Fern used her experiences in dance, music and teaching to develop a package which would reach the "whole" child.
Since it's creation 9 years ago Fern has accomplished a tremendous amount through the creative talents of her colleagues and herself. She has been recommended by USA TODAY, endorsed by Graceland/Elvis Presley Enterprises, and is one of the most requested artists on WERS -- THE PLAYGROUND (88.9), New England's largest children's radio program. Fern also receives airplay coast to coast. Fern has written 10 albums and to date has published 4 of them. Each album has a book and toys designed to accompany it. She does live concerts throughout New England with her 6 foot tall costume character "Charlie the chipmunk," who dances along side of her during her shows.
Fern's philosophy is to offer today's child a multidimensional, wholistic approach to learning through the arts. Original songs, stories and interactive exercises teach, entertain and stimulate children's imaginations. Varied themes will inspire a reverence for the earth and all its inhabitants as well as an appreciation of the beauty in diversity on a local, global and ultimately universal level.
