Bijou and his adventures
Bijou is now a year and a half and firmly ensconced within the family. He has established himself as Pen's sibling. Lily and Carl are his parents and Paul..well, for some unfathomable reason, Bijou has relegated Paul below himself on the pecking order. He seems to be aware that we are a family though because he prefers Paul to any stranger. There are many sides to this six ounces of feathers and beak. There is the side that relishes a fiesty argument with Pen, even if she is a good match for his screeching. But then I have to be fair - what is a birdie to do when provoked by a mischievious eleven year old girl ? There is the comical side when he entertains us with his clumsy acrobatic acts. For example, there was the time when he absentmindedly raised his foot to shake 'hands' with Carl and lost his balance and fell. Undaunted, he sprung back onto his feet to repeat his act. Above all, he adores human company and is persistant in acheiving his goals of hopping onto shoulders to nibble at earlobes, begging unashamedly for treats from the dinner table and strutting off to explore every decently loud noise. His wings are clipped so he is still able to fly short distances, so he is safely mobile. In his more well behaved periods, he likes to spend time at his perch sunning and preening himself. Hard to believe that there was life before Bijou !
