2001 And Still True Today
Yesterdays Thoughts of Family are very
dear to me as it makes me who I am today I try to install this in my
children also by staying in close contact with all of their
relatives. Family will be there thru the thick and
thin even when we do not see eye to eye on
My father instilled upon his children the value
of a Family and that money does not buy happiness as it is who
you are around that instills happiness.
The family I grew up in consisted of a mother and father in the home, 6 brothers and 5 sisters with
one brother who passed away at age 3 weeks and alot of hard work together as a family.
We all pulled our own weight to keep this
alive and altho we disagreed sometimes about certain issues we always had
another brother or sister to turn to.
"The joys of being brought up in a huge family."
On Sunday Afternoons we had our own softball team against the neighborhood kids that would also join us. You learn fast with a big family as their is always a new lesson learned from one sibling or another and we all tend to be individuals in finding our own place in the world today. Call it stubborness or you can call it independence but either way I do not think it is such a bad trait to have.
Tomorrows Dreams for My
Children would be that they continue to veiw each other as true brother
and sister even tho they have different fathers, that they do have the love and concern that comes from the heart of their mother who has always beleived they were a top priority in her life and maybe thats where she made the mistake and not put the partner as her number one priority instead of her
#1 - Being Myself
because if I do not take care of myself
noone else will
and my children will suffer the
consequences of my actions.
#2 - It Would Have To Be My Children
as they did not ask to come into this
world and it is my priority
to always be there
for them even when they do fall.
#3 - Would Have To Be Their Home And
Regardless of what was going on in my
life at the time
This one always was important to me as we all had to be happy
where we were at and the place we called "home" at the
(A hard lesson learned back in 1996 when we
without a place to live for about 2 months due to the new residence not
being ready for occupentcy yet and we were lucky enough to have the
blessings of a huge family and freinds so we always had a safe dry
place to rest our heads at night. Altho it was hard to be in anothers home combining two lifestyles into one for those nine weeks.)
#4 -Would Be My Future Love And Partner In
This person is listed as the fourth
priority due to the fact that they are not a guarantee in our future
endevours. Altho I do hope that someday I can combine this together
into one and have the so called typical family for my children.
What is considered a dysfunctional family today ?
Is it one where the children are not from
the same father?
An alcoholic / drug abuse homelife? A
place where the children raise themselves while the parents are off
working and putting more value in the materialistic things and dollar
amount rather than the amount of love shared in a home?
Over the years I have seen them all and I
still beleive to this day that it is not what you can give to your kids
but rather how you "give" to your kids that makes a family
When my oldest got into some trouble at age
15 and we needed to do a family assessment session beings I was a single
mother with 3 children and two fathers that the courts figured that this
was a prime example of a dysfunctionable family ...One for the books
But when we had finished this session and
we were in court (along with his father) the judge had made the comment
that it was nice to see two parents who could be their for their child
even when they had not been married. Also in the courtroom was the father
to my youngest two whom my oldest considered "DAD" . The
counselor determined us be the healthiest of families as the children
considered themselves true brothers and sisters and that we all got along
with each other yet. Both fathers included in this accessment.
