WILL OF SIR JOHN HENSON OF BLAKESLY 1551

The testament of Sir John Henson, priest, vicar of "Blaxley"

In the name of God, the year of our Lord God 1551 & the 13th Day of August, I John Henson, priest, vicar of Blakesly in the county of Northampton, do make this my last will & testament as here followeth;

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my only Redeemer & Saviour & my body to be buried in the church or churchyard of Blakesly aforesaid

Also I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 4d

Also to the bells in Blakesly church 3s 4d

Item to Ursula Foxley my goddaughter 3s 4d

To every one of my other godchildren 4d

Item to Alys Henson my goddaughter 2 pair of sheets, a brass pot

Item to Harold Henson 2 silver spoons

Item to Mr Person of "Plomton" my bl(ue?) gaberden

Item to Sir Richard "Jowett of Mayfere" [Hewet of Mayfair?] a "chambet gerkyn"

Item to every cottager in Blakesly 4d

The residue of all my goods unbequeathed I give & bequeath to Isabell Bennett, widow my servant whom I make my sole executrix of this my last will & testament-these being witness Mr Thomas Foxley, William Mariot, Robert Hopton with others

Also I ordain & make Harold Henson aforesaid overseer thereof

Probate granted 19th October 1553
