WILL OF EDWARD COLLINS SLAPTON 1557
In the name of God amen, the twentieth day of April Anno Dom., a thousand five hundred fifty and seven, witnesseth that I Edward Collins of Slapton within the parish of Saint "bowtole" and within the county of Northampton, being sick in the body and whole of mind and of good remembrance do ordain my testament & last will as hereafter followeth
First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my maker and Redeemer and Saviour and to our blessed Lady Saint Mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Slapton aforesaid
Also I bequeath to the high altar of Slapton aforesaid to the discharge of my ..... for tithes by me forgotten six pence
Item I bequeath to the reparations of the bells six pence
Also I bequeath to the Rood six pence
Also I give and bequeath to every child that I have twenty shillings apiece to be paid them when they come to the age of sixteen years, that is to say, Nicolas, Isbell, John, Margaret, Edward, Thomas, Ellysander, Robert and Hugh
Furthermore if any of my foresaid children do depart forth of this world before the age of sixteen years of each of them I will that this twenty shillings shall be parted amongst the residue of my children by even portions
The residue of my goods not bequeathed moveable and unmoveable my debts paid and my legacies discharged, I give and bequeath to Annis my wife whom I make my whole executrix whom I put my whole trust in, to see my will performed and done, I desire to be overseers to see my will performed, Hugh Fletcher of Slapton, and my brother Allysander [
