WILL OF JOHN WALLIS OF FINEDON 1557
In the name of God amen, the nineteenth of August in the year of our Lord God a thousand five hundred fifty and seven I John Wallis of " Thinden" in the county of Northampton, husbandman being of a whole mind and perfect remembrance, praise be unto Almighty God do make and ordain this my present testament concerning herein my last will in manner and form following
First I bequeath my soul unto the living Lord, my body to be buried in the church yard of "Thinden"
Item I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough two pence
Item I bequeath to the Sepulchre light of "Thinden" twelve pence and to the bells twelve pence and to the mending of the high ways twenty pence
Item to the sepulchre light of Stanwick twelve pence
Item I will and bequeath to William my son my house and land at Stanwick with all the appurtenances to him and his heirs
Item I will and bequeath to Robert Wallis my son a cottage house in ""Thindon"" and seven acres and a half of free land and a half rod of meadow to him his heirs and assigns
Item I will my wife shall have half my crop and half of all other my goods both moveable and unmoveable both at Stanwick and at ""Thindon"" but and if it shall please God to take her unto his mercy then I will that the foresaid crop, house, kine, sheep, wood and all other my goods be equally divided between William Wallis my son & Robert Wallis my son
Item I bequeath to Annis Goodfellow my table and form at "Thindon"
Item I bequeath to John Goodfellow my godchild a flecked calf and a sheep
Item I bequeath to William my son my malt querne and salting trough a plough with the "caulter" and share all my plough timber and other timber and boards and the hovels and all ..... at Stanwick
Also a brass pot a table and a form and a kettle
Item I bequeath to Ellen Wallis a sheep
Item I bequeath to the children of Robert Wallis my neve [nephew] each of them a sheep
Item I will that Annis my wife shall have her dwelling and abiding in my house at Stanwick with my son William the term of her life my foresaid son to "drese"? in every field four acres of land the carriage and recoverage and tillage and ....ing of her lands at his charges my wife to find the seed for the foresaid land
Also I will that she shall have during her life every year one load of hay and if she do keep her self widow she to have two kine at his my sons charge and wintered with her own self
Also I will that she shall have the thirds part of the same
And if my son and she cannot agree I will that he shall hire her a house of six shillings and eight pence rent a year
Also I will that my wife be my full executrix and if it shall please God to spare her life. If not I will that William and Robert Wallis and Christopher Goodfellow and Robert Wallis my "neve" [nephew] to be overseers to this my foresaid will
These bearing witness Sir John Heavet [?] priest and William Garrat with other moo.
Memorandum I do owe unto my brother Williams children six pounds two shillings
