WILL OF JOHN WALKER OF FINEDON 1543
In the name of God amen, the first day of February in the year of our Lord God 1543 and in the 36th year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Henry the 8th I John Walker of "Thinden" [
Finedon] being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be unto God make my last will and testament in manner and form followingFirst I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, our Lady Saint Mary & unto all the holy company in heaven & my body to be buried in the church yard of our Lady in "Thinden", and my mortuary to be done as the Kings Acts hath admitted
Also I bequeath unto the high altar of the same church in discharging of my conscience for tithes[?] 4d
Item I bequeath to the sepulchre light 8d
Item to the rood light 4d
Item to the bells 8d
Item to the torches 8d
Item I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 2d
Item I bequeath to John my son for to find him at school 5 marks
Item I bequeath to William my son a flecked yearling calf & a black grey horse
Item I bequeath to Agnes my daughter a black "doned" calf
Item I bequeath to Alice my daughter the best [?] that she can choose of 4 [sic]
Item I bequeath to Richard, Lawrence, Thomas, Elizabeth Margaret my children, every one of them a calf and if it fortune any of them to die before the years of discretion. or marriage of them then I will that the portion of any of them so dying to be divided amongst the other in this legacy contained
Item I bequeath unto Henry Good a calf at my wife's discretion [?]
Also I bequeath unto Margaret my wife all my houses with 2 yards land thereto belonging for the term of her life my son William's house excepted
And so I will that the said Margaret my wife shall have the said houses with 2 yard lands in her life time at her discretion and by the counsel of her friends to the use of my children when as she so think best my son John except
Also I bequeath unto Margaret my wife the residue of all my goods unbequeathed, my debts, all cost and charges paid, whom I make whole executrix and Richard Walker my brother to be supervisor
These being witnesses that this is my last will and all other void and of none effect
