WILL OF WILLIAM STALWORTH OF DAVENTRY 1544

In the name of God amen, in the year of our Lord God 1544 I William Stalworth sick in body, whole and perfect of mind make my last will and testament after this form and manner

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, to our Lady Saint Mary and to all the glorious company ..in heaven and my body to be buried in Daventry church before the crucifix and I make my wife Alys my full executrix of all my goods moveable & unmoveable

I bequeath to the high altar of Daventry for forgotten tithes 12d

I bequeath to Daventry church for my burial 3s 4d, to the bells 2s, to the torches 2s, to the guild of Daventry 3s 6d

I bequeath to the .... of Daventry .... John Capys door to the chapel £3 6s 8d and I will that Edward Pell and Thomas Clevely of Drayton do so this £4 6s 8d bestowed upon the payment and that William Symmes the "baylly" do see it truly done

I bequeath to every child that I have £6 13s 4d apiece and every one of them to be [the] others heir

I bequeath to 80 houses of poor people in Daventry four score groats that is 26s 8d

I bequeath to the sepulchre light 12d

I bequeath to my brother in law my best "scloffles coyt" and to Thomas Ward one of my "coyts" [coats?] and to Jane my servant a heifer and to ....... my servant that if he will serve out his .....then when his ....... be come up to have 53s 4d and I will that my wife Alys give him 13s 4d more, my will performed and my debts paid, I will that my wife Alys my executrix shall have the residue of my goods unbequeathed and I will that my wife Alys shall have the house that she dwelleth in and peaceably to enjoy it and all belonging thereto enduring her natural life making no wast and I make my overseers of my will that it be performed Sir William Walker curate, and Steven Nicolson and every one of them to have 5s apiece and Edward Pell and Thomas Clevely of Drayton to be overseers

Also of my will to see it truly done and performed and every one of them to have 10s apiece

This will made the 7th day of December in the year of our Lord God afore rehearsed his testament
