WILL OF ROBERT HUMPHREY OF HELMDON 1614
In the name of God amen, the eighth day of May in the year of our Lord God, one thousand six hundred and fourteen I Robert Humphrey of Helmdon in the county of Northampton, husbandman, being sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance, thanks be given to God therefore do make and ordain this my last will and testament concerning herein my last will, in manner and form following, that is to say,
First I betake my soul unto Almighty God our heavenly Father, Creator and Maker of all things and to Jesus Christ my Redeemer and the Holy Ghost the Sanctifier of all the elect children of God, of the which member I steadfastly believe myself to be one, and to be saved by the merits, death and bloodshed of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ only and by none other and my body to be buried in the church or churchyard of Helmdon or else where it shall please God
Item I do give and bequeath unto Margerie Saunders my godchild twelve pence
Item I do give and bequeath unto Roger Hill my godchild twelve pence
Item I do give and bequeath unto An Saunders my godchild twelve pence
Item I do give and bequeath unto my brother William Humphrey twenty shillings if ever he come for it
All the residue of all my goods and chattles, moveable and unmoveable I do wholly give unto my now beloved wife Alice Humphrey whom I do make and ordain my sole Executor of this my last will and testament she to pay my debts and to receive such debts as to me are due and rightfully owing, to see me decently buried, my funeral expences discharged, those my legacies duly performed, as my trust is she will
