WILL OF GEORGE WARREN OF SULGRAVE 1657

In the name of God amen, I George Warren of Sulgrave in the county of Northampton, yeoman, do on this sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred fifty three; make this my last will and testament in manner as followeth

Imprimis I bequeath my soul into the hands of God my maker and of Jesus Christ my redeemer by whose death I hope to be saved;

And my body to the earth from whence it came, and to be buried in the churchyard of Sulgrave in such decent a manner as my Executrix and friends shall think fit

Item I give unto my loving wife Millescent Warren and to her heirs Executors and Assignees for ever; my part of Nortons tenement unsold.

Item my will is that if I depart this life before William Durrant hath his assurance for the garden plot that he hath bought of me that my wife Millescent her heirs and Assignees, make him as good assurance as by law can be made him

Item I give unto my wife Millescent Warren the sum of twenty pounds

Item I give unto daughter Millescent Warren the sum of forty pounds

Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Warren the sum of forty pounds

Item I give unto my son George Warren the sum of forty pounds

Item my will is that those said legacies given by me unto my said loving wife and children be faithfully paid in good English money without fraud and by my son Humfrey Warren at his first entry upon half my living in Sulgrave, the house and land now in the tenure of Edward Smyth. I say my son Humfrey shall pay the said legacies when he shall enter upon the one half of my said living with his mother according to certain Covenants, to that effect heretofore made.

Item my will is that if my said wife Millescent depart this life before the said time, then the said legacy of twenty pounds assigned her to be equally divided between my three children abovenamed

Item if either of my children abovenamed depart this life unmarried, then the legacy or legacies given to be due to the survivor or survivors of them. If survivors to have equal parts If survivor to have [NB scribe has clearly omitted something here]

Item for the half yard land given to my son Henry Warren by my father Henry Warren, all the power there of that to me belongs I give unto my wife Millescent.

Item I desire my uncle Anthony Paxton and my brother Thomas Whitton to be the overseers of this my last will and testament

Item and lastly, for my wife Millescent I do make her my whole and sole Executrix of all my goods, cattle, chattles and whatsoever I have within this Commonwealth of England

This will was proved at London the fifth day of May in the year of our Lord God, one thousand six hundred fifty and seven before the Judges for probate of wills and granting Administrations lawfully authorised by the Oath of Millescent Warren the relict and Executrix of the said deceased named in the said will to whom Adminstration of all and singular the goods, chattels and debts of the said deceased was committed, she being by commission first sworn well and truly to administer the same.
