WILL OF JOHN KINGSTON SENIOR OF SHUTLANGER 1658
In the name of god amen
, the three and twentieth day of November Anno Dom, one thousand six hundred fifty & eight, I John Kingston the elder of Shutlanger in the county of Northampton, yeoman, being weak of body but of good and perfect remembrance, praised be Almighty God for it, do make and ordain this my last will & testament in manner and form following, that is to say,First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Maker hoping by the only death, merit, passion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ to be saved.
And my body I will to be buried within the parish church or churchyard of Stoke Bruerne at the discretion of my Executrix.
Item that whereas Thomas Kingston my son by covenant and agreement set down and expressed in one pair of Indentures made the thirteenth day of January Anno Dom. 1657/8 is to pay unto John Kingston my son the sum of thirty pounds within one year after my decease, I do by this my last will and testament, devise order and appoint that the said sum of thirty pounds shall be set forth & employed by my Executrix to and for the best comfort and behoof of my said son John Kingston yearly and the interest & increase thereof to be yearly laid forth to provide him apparel & other necessaries at the discretion of my executrix with the advise consent and approbation of my well beloved friend Mr. Daniel Rogers Minister of Stoke Bruerne and if my son John Kingston happen to die or depart out of this mortal life then my will is and I do hereby devise that this portion shall remain and be at the disposing of my Executrix with Mr. Daniel Rogers, his advise and consent. And as concerning the portions of my other children, Nicholas Kingston, William Kingston, George Kingston, John Kingston, Marke Kingston and Elizabeth Kingston who have survived nor had any portions I do by this my last will and testament devise, order and appoint that their portions shall be performed and paid by my son Thomas Kingston his executors, Administrators or assignees according to the contents of the said pair of Indentures bearing date the thirteenth day of January 1657/8 made betwixt me the said John Kingston the elder of the one party and Thomas Kingston my son of the other party, .. relation thereunto being had it doth and may more at large appear.
And concerning my other elder children as namely, Margaret the wife of John ..aters of Eastcote Mathew Kingston my son, Henry Kingston my son, Richard Kingston my son, Robert Kingston my son, Thomas Kingston my son, and Susannah the wife of William Scrivener of Potterspury my daughter who have had already portions of me, I do by this my will give to every one of them twelve pence of lawful money of England to be paid to them by my Executrix within one year after my decease.
All the rest and residue of my goods, cattle, chattels and debts, my debts being paid, legacies performed and funeral expences discharged I wholly give and bequeath them unto Elizabeth my well beloved wife whom I do make my full and sole Executrix and I make my well respected and truly "affected" [affectioanate?] friend Mr Daniel Rogers Minister of Stoke Bruerne, overseer of this my last will and testament and have published this as my last will and testament in the presence of
