WILL OF ROBERT WATTS OF ROTHERSTHORPE 1703

In the name of god amen, I Robert Watts of Rothersthorpe alias Thrup in the county of Northampton, husbandman, being in good health of body & of sound & perfect mind and memory, praise be given to Almighty God. I do make & ordain this my present last will & testament in manner & form following, that is to say,

First & principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merits, death and passion of Saviour Jesus Christ to have full & free pardon & forgiveness of all my sins & to inherit everlasting life & my body I commit to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named & as touching all such temporal estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me, I give & dispose of (as followeth).

Item I give & bequeath to my son John Watts all that my farm house & homestead with all the land belonging to it & all the crop thereunto belonging which is called by the name of Cooks farm in the Lordship of Thrup aforesaid, upon condition that my said son John shall pay or cause to be paid unto my loving wife Ursley Watts the sum of forty shillings every year by even & equal portions (that is to say) at a Lady & Michaelmas in manner & form following, that is to say, twenty shillings at a Lady Day next ensuing the date hereof & twenty shillings more to be paid at Michaelmas Day next coming for, & during the life of my loving wife Ursley Watts

Item I give to my son Robert Watts all that my farm in Thrup aforesaid with the house, homestead & all the land belonging to it with the crop which belongeth to Sir Frances Andrews upon condition that my said son Robert Watts shall pay or cause to be paid to my said loving wife Ursley forty shillings a year during her natural life in manner and form following (that is to say) twenty shillings at a Lady Day next ensuing the date hereof & twenty shillings at Michaelmas next coming & further my will is that my loving wife Ursley Watts shall live with my son Robert Watts & to have her maintenance if my said wife Ursley Watts & my said son Robert Watts can agree, but if my said wife Ursley Watts & my said son Robert Watts cannot agree, then my will is that my said wife Ursley Watts shall go out & provide for herself and for my said two sons, John Watts & Robert Watts to pay to my said wife Ursley forty shillings apiece as aforesaid.

Item I give to my two daughters Ann & Mary five pounds apiece to be paid to them by my said two sons John Watts & Robert Watts equally five pounds apiece.

Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Watts ten pounds & to have it paid by my said two sons John Watts & Robert Watts equally five pounds apiece to my said daughter Elizabeth Watts (that is for Ann & Mary to have it to be paid to them five pounds apiece one year after my decease and for my daughter Elizabeth to have her ten pounds paid to her by her aforesaid brothers John Watts & Robert Watts when she shall attain to the age of twenty one years & not before.

Item all my stock & cattle whatsoever I give & bequeath to my two sons John Watts & Robert Watts to be divided between them share & share alike.

Item I give all my goods in my house to my loving wife Ursley Watts & to be at her own disposing, as for all the plows, harrows & implements belonging to husbandry I give & dispose of to my said two sons John Watts & Robert Watts share & share alike to be equally divided between them.
