WILL OF THOMAS WATTS OF ECTON 1660/2

In the name of God amen, the thirteenth day of February 1660 according to the computation of the Church of England, I Thomas Watts of Ecton in the county of Northampton, yeoman, being of perfect memory and remembrance praised be God do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following viz.,

First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker, hoping that through the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and as for my body to be buried in Christian burial at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter nominated.

Item I give unto Thomas Grubb the son of William Grubb twenty pounds to be paid him one year after my decease.

Item I give to Anne Bett five pounds to be paid one year after my decease

Item I give Elizabeth Bett five pounds to be paid her one year after my decease.

Item I give unto Elizabeth, Anne & Sarah the daughters of George Bett forty shillings apiece to be paid them one year after my decease.

Item I give unto Robert Dickenson his three children forty shillings apiece to be paid them one year after my decease.

Item I give to the rest of William Grubb's children three pounds amongst them to be paid them one year after my decease.

Item I give to my brother Watts, twelve pence & to his children twelve pence apiece to be paid one year after my decease.

Item I give to John Watts, his daughters of Wellingborough forty shillings to be paid them in like manner as aforesaid

Item I give unto my sister Marshall's children forty shillings to be paid them in like manner .

Item I give to Elizabeth Morris the daughter of Thomas Morris twenty shillings to be paid her in like manner as aforesaid

Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth Watts my dwelling house which I now live in and all other my barns, stables, outhouses, orchards, gardens, closes belonging, the same with the appurtenances in Ecton to her and to her heirs and assignees forever

Also I give & bequeath unto my said loving wife Elizabeth and to her heirs and assignees forever all my lands, leys, "hades", meadowgrounds & commons belonging to the same with the reversion & remainder of the said premises with the appurtenances lying & being in the fields, parish & territory of Ecton aforesaid upon condition that she shall pay all my debts & legacies and make her sole Executrix of this my last will & testament revoking all other wills and testaments,

And all the rest of my goods unbequeathed I give to my wife Elizabeth. Also I do make and ordain George Bett & Sir William Vaux to be the overseers of this my last will & testament and for their pains I give them five shillings apiece

Item three "beease" and one swine at 10.0.0

Item one "hanvill" [anvil] with the iron upon it & the brake "rick" 3.0.0

Item in the hall one table one cupboard with brass and pewter and

all other things therein at 2.0.0

Item in the chamber over in the hall the goods therein 2.0.0

Item in another little chamber the goods therein at 1.0.0

Item in the buttery all the things there at 10.0

Item his p.... and apparel at 3.6.8
