MICHAEL FOX OF CHACOMBE 1569

In the name of God amen, the 29th day of January, 1569, I Michael Fox of Chacombe in the county of Northampton gent., being whole of mind and memory, laud and praise be to Almighty God, make and ordain this my testament and last will in manner and form following;

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God most humbly beseaching him to have mercy on me according to his great mercy.

Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Fox my house called Kane [?] house standing and being within the precinct of my mansion house of Chacombe and also my parsonage or rectory of Chacombe aforesaid upon this condition following and none otherwise that is to say that if the said John Fox his heirs executors or administrators shall have occasion or be minded at any time hereafter to sell or let to farm the said house called Kane or the said parsonage of Chacombe or any part thereof that then he shall sell and let to farm the same to my son and heir Richard Fox and the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten and to none other taking of him or them for the sale of the same the sum of £240 and no more and for the farm or rent thereof as much as my other will gave for them without fraud

To have and to hold the said house called Kane [?] with all such stuff as now remaineth in the same and also the said parsonage or rectory with all tithes oblations and other profits whatsoever belonging to the same (the condition aforesaid being observed) and not otherwise to the said John Fox and to the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten forever.

And for default of such issue to my son and heir Richard Fox and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten forever.

And for default of such issue all the premises to remain to the right heirs of me the said Michael Fox forever.

Item I give also to my said son John my lesser standing cup, silver and gilt with a cover, my lesser silver pot without a cover, 6 silver spoons with knobs, and four featherbeds.

Item I give and bequeath to my said son Richard Fox my mansion house of Chacombe aforesaid with all the appurtenances to the same belonging except only the said house called Kane [?] house, and I give to the said Richard all my "Demayne" lands belonging to my said mansion house lying and being within the town fields and parish of Chacombe aforesaid or elsewhere.

To have and to hold the said mansion house and all other the premises with the appurtenances except before excepted to the said Richard Fox and to the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten forever

And for want of such issue to the said John Fox and to the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten forever.

And for lack of such issue all the premises to remain to the right heirs of me the said Michael Fox.

Item I give to Michael Fox the son of the said Richard Fox my great mazer bound about with silver and gilt.

The residue of all my lands and goods whatsoever afore not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath to my said son Richard Fox

witnesses hereof Thomas Leigh, vicar of Chacombe aforesaid, Thomas Mayo, Thomas Bishopp and John Fox per me Thomas Lee vicar de Chacombe by me John Fox.

Probate granted 11th July 1569.
