He was in York in 1629, but Rowland Young, fisherman of York declared in 1686 that he had lived in York fifty years (since 1636) thus making him one of the first settlers of the town. Rowland first fished at the Isles of Shoals before he acquired land on the creek in York.

Gen. Dictionary of ME and NH p.776: He was fined for travelling to Kittery on Sunday in 1666, and for drunkeness in 1678.

NOTE: Pioneers of Maine and New Hampshire, page 244: YOUNG, Rowland, Senior, York, an inhabitant there about 1637, according to the disposition of his son Rowland in petition to Andros in 1688, "brought up a great family of children." [Bax.Ms.VI] Took oath of allegiance to Mass. gov't. 22 Nov. 1652. With wife Johanna he conveyed land 18 April 1682, to son Samuel; and to son Rowland 25 Aug. 1685, a tract formerly the homestead of their father Robert Knight, and a tract adjoining land of their son Robert Young.

Will probated 6 Nov 1685, beq. to wife Johanna; in her will prob. 20 June 1698, she beq. to sons Rowland and Job, and daus. Mary Moulton and Lydia Haines. [Me Wills 124 and York Deeds IV & V] Joanne signed her will on May 12, 1698. Her estate was probated on June 20, 1698.

History of York, Maine, by Banks, Vol 1. page 98: He is the ancestor of one of the families in York which has maintained a continuous residence in the town for three centuries. The only occurrence of the rare name of Rowland in combination with Young, known to the author, is in Buckinghamshire, in the parish of High or Chipping Wycombe, where a Rowland Young was married in 1616 and again in 1618. He could have been the father of our early settler who came to York about 1636 and followed the occupation of fisherman (Mass. Archives x, 161; cxxviii, 243). If he were the son of this marriage he was a minor when arriving in York, and probably came as an apprentice or with some relative whose identity is not determined. His home was in Godfrey's first division of the Grand Patent extending northeast from Meeting House Creek.
He signed the Submission 1652; signed a petition against the sale of Maine, 1679; signed a petition to the King, 1680; will proved Nov. 6, 1685; inventory of estate L224-06-0. He was probably married twice (1) ukn; (2)Joan Knight, daughter of Robert, before 1668.

Page 282: Chapter: THE FIRST AND SECOND INDIAN WARS...On April 12, 1677 two men, a woman and four children were killed and two houses burned, one of which belonged to Rowland Young on Ferry Neck. The names of the victims are unknown...

FROM History of York, Maine by Banks Page 307: Listed under captives of the Indians: Young, Rowland There is no record in York of one of this name, but it may be surmised that he was an unrecorded son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Masterson) Young who lived on Cider Hill. The father was killed in t massacre and others living in the immediate neighborhood were either killed or captured. This seems more probable that that he was the Job and Sarah (Austin) Young who lived in another part of the town, whose family suffered no known casualties in the massacre. Nothing is of record as to his destination of final disposition except that in 1695 he was still living in Canada.

From Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families 1620-1700, by Holmes: ROBERT, took the oath of allegiance York, Maine, 1681.
ROWLAND, brother of the preceding, b.Scotland, about 1625, freeman York, Maine, 1652.
