I first became a fan of Ms. Parker when she starred in the 1982-83
series, Square Pegs. As the brainy, awkward
Greene, she displayed an innate allure which made me believe that she
be desired by not only popular freshman Vinnie Pasetta, but also by
looking senior Larry Simpson. These characters, as I did, saw past her
ungainly appearance to the real beauty within. However, it was not
I saw her in the film Footloose that I became convinced it was
actress, not just the character, that I found so attractive. One thing
I find so appealing about her is her energy. She is rarely still on
frequently jumping or spinning about, seemingly ready to explode at any
time. Also, she projects intelligence and vulnerability, as well as an
unusual accessibility. Perhaps that is why she isn't a bigger star:
like their movie stars larger than life, while Ms. Parker seems like
you could sit down with over a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze.
magazine articles I have read about her emphasize this characteristic.
Indeed, several readers of this page who know or have met her have
me. They all say that she is just as nice and genuine a person as her
image suggests. Another reason for her relative lack of renown is that
she prefers working in the theater to making movies, although she seems
to enjoy the variety of roles she plays in the two media. (Here's
an on-line interview with her about this). It is likely that her
attitude towards her career is the reason she has been able to make the
conversion from child star to acclaimed adult actress.
When I started surfing the 'Net, I looked high and low for Web pages
dedicated to her, but although there are dozens of sites extolling the
virtues of such actresses as Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Aniston, and Drew
there was nary a one about Ms. Parker. Thus, I undertook to create the
site which you are now visiting. I hope you enjoy it. If you have been

Her appearance in an off-Broadway revue based on the songs of Charles Strouse, who wrote the music for the Broadway play Annie, led to winning a role in that production. In January 1979, she became the third actress to portray the lead in that play, remaining in the role for 12 months, until she outgrew it. She attended Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ and performed in other plays until 1982, when she landed one of the lead roles in the CBS sitcom, Square Pegs. She then transferred to Hollywood High. After graduation, she decided to bypass college in order to pursue acting full time. After the cancellation of her series, she began appearing in movies, mostly in supporting roles, as well continuing on the stage. After breaking up with him, she had a brief romance with John Kennedy, Jr., before meeting the man she hopes will be her partner for life, Matthew Broderick.
Her professional life experienced a similar change for the better at
about the same time. In 1991, she landed the part of SanDeE* in Steve

a superb comedienne, but she had also grown to be a very attractive
woman. Since this latter fact in of supreme importance in Hollywood,
was now able to land bigger parts in movies featuring big stars such as
Bruce Willis and Bette Midler. She has continued to work on stage,
a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance as
title character in the play Sylvia. She appeared in How To
In Business Without Really Trying with Mr. Broderick, and played
lead role in the Tony award-nominated musical comedy, Once Upon A
