The European Multi-twinning (E.M.T.) is a unique coöperation-agreement within Junior Chamber of 11 chapter from 11 different European Countries :
The idea to bring together one Chapter of every state of the European Community (E.C.) was born during the meeting of Belgian (Hasselt) and Dutch (Alphen) Jaycees at the Europe-Africa-Congres in Antwerp 1978.
In the following year, the first meeting took place in the Netherlands : it was the year of the first elections to the European Parliament. The following years, the E.M.T. was held on a yearly basis, each treating a particular subject.
By the mean of bringing together on a regularly basis Jaycees of different, European states, the E.M.T. wants to participate at the construction of a real European Union, through the creation of international frienship and distribution of knowledge of the different European regions.
The past 5 E.M.T.-events:
The yearly conference of the E.M.T. is organized around a main theme, selected by the host-chapter. The weekend starts on thursday-evening, with a 'home-hospitality-evening'.
On Friday, the official opening-ceremony, the theme sessions and the 'Get acquainted party' are traditionally on the programm. On Saturday, the business brunch, the touristical tour, the award-ceremony and the Gala-Banquet guarantee every participant a unique and joyfull way to meet every other participant.
On Sunday, the E.M.T. finishes with the final brunch, during which the next EMT is presented.
Every E.M.T. is a unique event during which ca. 200 participants have the opportunity of meeting Jaycees from more than 11 European Countries.
In may 1996, the 18th E.M.T. was organized by the J.C. Hasselt. The theme of the twinning was "Water tomorrow, (y)our concern today".
This theme was developped between the different chapters, by comparing the quality of river water in the European countries. The theme was extended with a local symbol (the 'Global Watership Symbol') and an international programm (financing of a pump project in Vietnam, in coöperation with Unicef).
In may 1997, the 19th E.M.T. was organized by
our German friends from Mannheim. In september 1996, Mannheim
organized the German National Conference (BundesKonferenz), with
the central theme "Innovation today, Succes tomorrow".
This theme will also be the central theme of the E.M.T. in
Mannheim.
