Aladjev V., Hunt Ü., Shishakov M. Mathematics on Personal Computers. Textbook: Russian Academy of Noosphere, Gomel, 1996.- 320 p.  (In Russian Language)

This book introduces students and professionals in the different fundamental and applied fields to the famous Mathematica Package, which is a powerful computational engine, graphics and programming environment. The book presents the detailed introduction to the Mathematica 2.2 for Windows platform covering all of the packages`s major capabilities; its includes a great number of Math-fragments and Math-examples for illustration of all general package`s capabilities. Places emphasis on Mathematica`s capabilities as a programming system for solving of the different problems of mathematical character in the different fundamental and applied areas.

As distinct from other devoted to Mathematica books, the matherials are mainly based on the enough detailed approving the package on so-called local level of its major capabilities. This approach allowed both to detalize many interesting properties of package`s capabilities and to discover a number of bugs of the different levels, and particular situations. The book was submitted using our experience of approving, adaptation and operation of such popular mathematical packages as MathCAD and REDUCE.

The book consists of seven chapters; each chapter describes means of the package for solving various mathematical problems and then provides Math-fragments based on ea-ch capability. General structure of the book can be presented as follows:

Contents of the Book according to Chapters:

Introduction

1. General Knowledge of the Mathematica 2.2 Package

2. Exploitation of the Mathematica Package in Windows FrontEnd Media

3. Principles of Interactive Work in the Kernel Package Environment

4. Principles of the Graphical Means of the Mathematica Package

5. Elements of Analysis with Mathematica Package

6. Elements of Algebraical Calculus with Mathematica Package

7. Means of Math-language for Access to External Resources of Package

Appendixes

In a software system as large as Mathematica there are inevitably bugs. In particular, Appendixes present a list of some bugs and particular situations detected in the process of our approving the Mathematica for Windows platform. Furthermore, Appendixes contains a number of proposals for the further development of the package. Together with general text of the book Appendixes presents enough complete introduction to problems of the package.
