ummer was born March 28, 1995 and she came to live with us just before Memorial Day at 8 weeks old. |

I had wanted to get two Wesies together because I heard so much about how well they get along in pairs, but many breeders discouraged us from getting them at the same time. So when Angel turned one, I decided we were ready for Westie #2. Needless to say, it took some time before Angel got used to having another puppy around, but Summer took to her right away. Since we adopted her at the start of Memorial Day, we decided the name Summer or Sambradh in Gaelic, was a perfect name. Just like the season, Summer is warm and friendly and full of fun.

Summer is a very unique Westie. She has a very distinct personality and even her bark is different...more of a growl than a bark. She loves going outside and for walks. And unlike Angel who is very shy around strangers, Summer is extremely sociable; she takes easily to new things and new people.

When Summer was still young, she was much more possessive of me. Whenever I was home, she insisted on being near me, and when I left her, she'd throw a fit. I had a number of plants on my windowsill that used to be the target of her aggression when I'd leave her. I'd come home to find pots and plants upturned on my bed...and dirt everywhere. The only evidence I'd find that she was responsible was a mess of dirt in the hair on her chin.

I tried moving the plants to a higher location and that would work for awhile, but in a matter of time, she'd find a new way to get at them. I was beginning to be at my wit's end when one day my brother brought home a cactus. I put it on my windowsill and forgot all about it. One day when I left, I came home to find the cactus on my bed, knocked over. Summer was sitting next to it with a strange look on her face and a few cactus needles stuck in her fur. It finally dawned on me that she had tried to "attack" this plant like the others, and she was stunned that unlike the others, this plant fought back!! Needless to say, she's never touched my plants again.
