A Bitchin' Guide for Beginners
By Matteo Bettocchi
In this section of my surf page, there is a little Guide for surfing,
It's made quite well, and there is also a "Surfonary"
where all the specific terms and definitions are listed, Go, Enjoy and
come to surf with us !!!
STEP 1: GET A HOLD OF A
SURFBOARD AND A WETSUIT AND A LEASH
The best learning boards are long, wide, and thick single
fins. Longboards are better for beginners
because they're more stable (which makes it easier to stand up on) and
have more buoyancy (which makes it easier to paddle and catch waves). You
can get a used longboard (eight feet is good) for about $50 at most surf
shops. If the ocean is cold where you are, you'll need a wetsuit. Black
or dark blue wetsuits are best; hot pink ones suck because you'll feel
stupid when you're flailing and everybody is staring at you. If the water's
really cold, get some wetsuit booties for yo' feet. If you're learning
to surf in Alaska, Maine, or some psycho place like that, forget the wetsuit
and paddle out naked.
