Dame Inagad Dadavida

Inagad Dadavida

(normal difficulty)

[Inagad Dadavida is a member of an Isolationist variant team playing on USWest. The Isolationist rules were devised by Sirian, and can be read in this post on the Realms Beyond Diablo forum. The Isolationist team followed on from the Elemental Strike Team (see Flame Vixen's page), and includes several of the same players, along with some new faces.]

[Read Ina's corny background story here.]

With no bolts left, Ina hides behind a wall of paladins and uses her Magic Arrow skill

My plan for Ina was to develop her as a spear-amazon, specialising in Lightning Strike, with a bow for backup when she didn't have a good spear to hand (since bows don't have durability, she could just keep the best bow the team found and it would last the entire game). Since the focus of the team was intended to be the melee characters, I wanted to avoid making Ina too powerful as a bowazon, so picked Guided Arrow as her primary bow skill instead of the usual Multishot or Strafe.

Through normal difficulty, it was the lack of any repair ability that was the dominant feature of this variant. With a team of mostly melee characters equipment wore out quickly, and in any game session the center of town quickly became littered with spare weapons and pieces of armor kept in case they were needed later. The remanining durability became an important factor in evaluating the worth of found items, and even in choosing which magical pieces were worth using up one of the limited supply of identify scrolls.

Too much stuff :)

Ina did a lot of melee combat in normal difficulty. Her spears didn't last very long, but at this stage of the game it was easy enough to find replacements good enough to be useful. When the team fought Andariel she was using a gemmed trident (chipped emerald, chipped sapphire, chipped amethyst). In act 2 she found Dire Needle (a rare spetum), and kept this for use against the three remaining act bosses.

With the team's barbarian making good use of Find Potion, there was no shortage of potions. At least, there was no shortage when the barbarian was around. Ina really missed his abilities when she was doing catch-up play on her own after missing a couple of the team games. She used up practically all her stored potions in combat with Duriel (which still didn't save her from getting killed a couple of times), and was forced to make do with whatever potions she found through the forests of act 3. And she didn't find nearly as many as she needed, resulting in more deaths trying to dodge flayer mobs with her belt empty, and no town portal scrolls for a quick escape to healing in town. Ina died 13 times through normal difficulty, 10 of those deaths occured in this one solo session.

Ina was initially undecided as to whether to get a Decoy, thinking that with all the paladins to hide behind, she wouldn't need to provide her own tank. But in the end she did, and almost immediately the skill proved its worth by saving her life when the team was swarmed by a huge mob of assorted nasties, including at least one boss pack, in the Chaos Sanctuary. Ina was the only team member not killed in the encounter, staging a hasty retreat behind repeated castings of her newly-acquired Decoy.

Diablo dies!

The Isolationist team through normal difficulty consisted of Inagad Dadavida, Obsidian-ISO (paladin, played by Sirian), blueshft (paladin, played by zParticle), Khemal (paladin, played by Ithil), Kyldin (paladin, played by Anur), ISOHoly (paladin, played by Occhidiangela), and Cy_IsoBar (barbarian, played by Cyrene).
