High Speed Ground Transportation (HSGT) is defined as a transportation system, which is able to maintain a sustained speed of 125+ miles per hour. MAGLEV technology is not new. The United States began investigating this concept in the 1970's. The technology started being developed as a more efficient form of mass transportation. It can be thought of as a flying train. There is minimal physical contact between the vehicle and the railroad (or guideway). High speed MAGLEV exists as sort of a happy medium between current air and rail transportation. It has been found that for trips between 100 and 600 miles, using MAGLEV technology may be more efficient than ground or sky transportation.
