Tleena is a member of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, and traveled on Tribal Journeys the summer of 97. As an obligation of being titled as the United States Miss. Indian USA Tleena represented all of the tribes. As a representative of all of the tribes Tleena travelled on many canoes.Tleena made appearances at Pow Wows, such as the First Salmon Home Coming.
On Saturday, July 18, 1998 Tleena's tribe (The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe) held an honoring dinner for her. Tleena, as well as others, were brought to tears many times, as various people spoke of Tleena's inspirational powers.Tleena had a give-away, and many people came from afar to show that they support Miss. Indian U.S.A. The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe carved a sign that said, "Home of Miss. Indian USA Tleena Ree Ives." Truly Tleena is loved by all for her kind, gentle, and caring personality. Tleena worked actively with the teenagers at the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and helped reactivate the Elwha Youth Council which had been inactive for a few years. The Elwha Youth Council is recognized by a national program called U.N.I.T.Y. (United National Tribal Indian Youth. Tleena was also involved in going to the A. I. S. E. S. (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) Conferences.
Tleena was honored in Washington D. C. They had a banquet in her honor, and a banner flown over the White House!
The Klallam Nation is proud that Tleena was Miss. Indian USA. Tleena is the first to represent the Great Pacific Northwest. Thank you for your service to the Native American people Tleena!
