No Help - Interplanetary Battle Strategy

New Tactics Added: 04/01/2000

The wars in the stars start right here:

Battle in outerspace is a great deal different that battle on a plant's surface.
There are many different variables to consider.  On a planet, gravity could be
seen as a foe.  In space, that very same gravity could be seen as a much
needed ally.  Firearms are standard issue on planets with an oxygen
atmosphere.  These weapons, however, are about as useful in space as a
hand full of rocks.  All of these factors make battle techniques in space much
more complex than conventional warfare.  The old tactics that generals have
depended on for centuries and centuries are going the way of the dinosaur as
we venture out into the galaxy in search of new enemies.

Passivitism In The Intergalactic Battlefield

Although the act of war is often seen as aggressive, there are some offenive
techniques that are quite passive in nature.  This passivity should not be
mistaken as a weak or inaffective last resort effort.  A passive standpoint, for
a limited time at least, can have more benefits than otherwise imaginable.

Siege Warfare

Let us propose a situation where there is a collective of warfaring people who
have a limited strikeforce.  This collective wants to expand their planetary
holdings in their region of space.  Now, let's say that there is another collevtive
of people who are much stronger.  That is, they have more space ships and
greater battle capabilities.  These odds certainly do not favor the smaller,
aggresive collective, but one move in particular could assist greatly.

The first part of this tactic is to collect as much scrap metal and general debris.
This could be anything from rocks to old car doors.  The more dense the
material, the better.  Next, all of this debris should be loaded into as many
space vehicles as possible.  Now, it's off to the soon-to-be-conquered planet.

Once the flotilla has reached the target planet, the next phase is to get rid of all
of the debris into the orbit of the planet.  This may seem useless and not too
friendly to the environment, but its dividends will be greatly appreciated.  This
will clutter the immediate orbital areas around the planet.  The debris will,
hopefully, interfere with satellite communications by destroying the satelites.
The space garbage will also create hazardous skies for the targeted planet.
Space ships taking off will be damaged by the debris.  Some of the ships may
suffer little damage, but others will crash into all sorts of large objects.

The people in mission control will have no idea that there is an old car right in
the path of the new battle cruiser.  Unbeknownst to anyone, the new battle
cruiser will suddenly experience systems malfunctions all over the place.  All
of the trouble shooters will have no idea what is going on.

This debris will cause all sorts of confusion on the surface of the planet.  The
idea is to create so much confusion that the planetary government crumbles.
Then, the small, weak, incapable collective stakes a claim on the planet and
thus begins their reign.

If you are easily confused, then you should avoid such difficult things, but the e-mail
is pretty easy to deal with these days.  Just try it and see: this is the place.
Go to just after the beginning: right here.
Go to the end: it is here.
