Mets win the wild card!!!!!

This page will track the Mets progress through the post season beginning with the Divisional Series, and hopefully, up through the World Series. Each game's result will be in the tables and I will keep track of the series and give my personal star of each game at the bottom of each section.

Mets win series 3 to 1

Star of the game!!!

Game #1 - Jay Payton, 0 for 3, 1 RBI(1), 1 K
Drove in the only run the Mets could muster with a sacrifice fly which scored Mike Bordick from third base.

Game #2 - Al Leiter, 8+ IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
Leiter was brilliant when the Mets needed an ace, he didn't allow a hit after the 3rd inning until the 8th inning, he had the Giants guessing all night and his fastball-cutter was baffling the hitters all night.
Note: The Mets rookies Timo Perez, making his first post-season start, and Jay Payton where great. Perez went 3 for 5, 2 RBI(2), 1 R, 1 K and Payton went 1 for 5, 1 RBI(2), 1 R: he had the GW RBI single in the top of the tenth.
Note: The Mets scored all 5 runs with two outs, they finally got the timely and important hits they have been looking for all season. Game 3 is Sat. at what should be a loud and raucous Shea Stadium.
Note: In a game full of drama and heros Edguardo Alfonzo hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth that extended the Mets lead to 4 to 1, and John Franco got the save, after Armando Benitez couldn't hold the lead in the bottom of the ninth, and struck Barry Bonds out looking with the tieing run on first and himself representing the winning run. What a great game!!!!!

Game #3 - Benny Agbayani, 1 for 6, 1HR(1), 1RBI(1), 1K
Hit the game winning HR in the bottom of the 13th inning

Game #4 - Bobby Jones, CG, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Pitched a complete game one hitter to clinch the series when the bullpen really needed a rest after Game 3's 5 and 1/2 hour battle.

Series MVP!!!

Edguardo Alfonzo, batted .278 with one homerun and five RBI's in the series. Was the Mets big bat when Piazza, Ventura, and Zeile weren't hitting very well.

Mets win the NLDS!!!!!

Mets win series 4 to 1

Star of the game!!!

Game #1 - Mike Piazza, 2 for 4, 1 2B(1), 1 RBI(1)
The Mets have been waiting for Piazza to start producing and he did a little in this game. He drove in the Mets first run with a double down the third base line in the top of the first and then the Mets were off and running their way to six runs and a 1-0 NLCS lead.
Note: Jay Payton hit a two-run homerun(1) in the top of the ninth and now has 4 RBI's in the postseason and the Mets big guns, numbers 2-5 in the batting order, all had RBI's in this game. Hopefully this is a sign that the big bats are starting to wake up.
Note: Alfonzo keeps producing and now has 6 RBI's in the postseason. GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game #2 - Edguardo Alfonzo, 2 for 3, 1 3B(1), 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI(7)
Alfonzo keeps on producing in the postseason, he's batting .333 with a homerun, triple, double, and 7 RBI's.
Note: Jay Payton had the game-winning hit in the top of the ninth after the Cards had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, he now has two game-winning hits in the postseason.

Game #3 - Edguardo Alfonzo, 2 for 4, now batting .357 in the postseason
Not much offense was produced by the Mets in this game but Alfonzo has now hit safely in every game of the postseason.

Game #4 - Robin Ventura, 1 for 2, 1 2B(1), SF, 3 RBI(6)
Every cylinder was clicking for the Mets in this game as the number 1-6 batters were a combined 9 for 21 with 10 RBI's and 9 runs scored. They are only one win away from a birth in their first World Series in 14 years.

Game #5 - Mike Hampton, CG, SO, 3 H, 1 BB, 8 K
Hampton was brilliant in sending the Mets to the World Series. He allowed only 3 singles and no runners got the second base all night. He pitched 16 scoreless innings in the NLCS and he showed the naysayers that he really is a big game pitcher.

Series Co-MVP's!!!

Mike Hampton and Edguardo Alfonzo
Hampton for his 16 scoreless innnings in the series and Alfonzo for his .361 batting average, 9 RBI's, and his having hit safely in every single Mets postseason game this season and 11 straight going back to last year's playoffs.

The World Series begins Saturday, Oct. 21 against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. This Series will mark the first Subway Series in 44 years and it is sure to be a classic championship. My prediction Mets in 7. What a classic "Fall Classic" this will be.

Mets win the NLCS!!!!!

Mets win NL Pennant!!!

Yanks win series 4 to 1

Star of the game!!!

Game #1 - Bubba Trammel, 1 for 1, 2 RBI(2)
He had a big pinch-hit 2 run single that gave the Mets the lead in the top of the seventh.
Note: Alfonzo had another hit that continued his streak of hitting in 12 straight postseason games including all 11 this year.

Game #2 - Jay Payton, 1 for 4, 1 HR(1), 3 RBI(4), 1 R, 1 K
He cut the Yanks lead to 6-5 in the top of the ninth after Piazza hit a 2-run homerun earlier in the inning.
Note: Alfonzo was 1 for 3 and continued his remarkable hitting streak in the postseason. The focus shifts to Shea Stadium for the next three games and if the Mets hope to make a series out of this they must win all three at home, starting tonight, and the bats must wake-up and the whole team must start striking early. Good luck.

Game #3 - Rick Reed, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
Reed pitched brilliantly when the Mets absolutely had to win this game. He is not known as a power pitcher but he had the Yanks guessing at every pitch and the Mets got 6 very strong innings out of won of the weaker pitchers in the rotation.
Note: Benny Agbayani had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 8th with a double up the middle against El Duque which scored Todd Ziele all the way from first.

Sorry I didn't have a chance to update this since October because I have been real busy. The Mets, unfortunately, lost the World Series to the Yankees 4 games to 1. The Series was great and quite memorable. I look forward to a renewal of the rivalry next season during Interleague play and hopefully we will meet again in the Series.

Congratulations to all the Mets players and coaches.

Thank you for a prosperous and memorable season and I look forward to what is to come next season. Good luck next year.
