Braves win series 4 to 2
Star of the game!!!
Game #1 - Edgardo Alfonzo, 2 for 4, 2 2B, 1 RUN
He is now batting .300 for the playoffs.
Game #2 - Melvin Mora, 1 for 2, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 RUNS
Note: Edgardo Alfonzo went 2 for 4 with a 2B and 1 RBI, he now has 4 2B, 7 RBI, and is batting .333 in the postseason.
Game #3 - Melvin Mora, 2 for 4, now batting .429
Note: The Mets had 3 Outfield assists in game 3, Rickey Henderson nailed Larry (Chipper) Jones and Eddie Perez trying to stretch singles into doubles, and Melvin Mora nailed Bret Boone at the plate trying to score from third base on a weakly hit, Brian Jordan, fly ball in the first innning.
Game #4 - John Olerud, 2 for 4, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 RUN
Had the game winning 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th inning off John Rocker.
Game #5 - Robin Ventura, 2 for 7, 1 RBI, 1 K
Had the game winning Grandslam turned 1-run single in the bottom of the 15th inning, meaning, he only reached second base before he was mobbed by teamates and never touched home. In my opinion, I think he should have been given a home run since the ball went over the fence.
Note: John Olerud went 2 for 6, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 RUN, 1 BB and is now batting .351 with 3 HR and 11 RBI in the postseason.
Note: The Mets have now won two in a row after being down 3-0 in the series and have forced a game 6 Tuesday night in Atlanta. They have become only the second team in major league history to be down 3-0 in a seven game series and force a 6th game, the Braves did it last year against the Padres.
Game #6 - Darryl Hamilton, 3 for 5, 2 RBI
Unfortunately the miracle season is over, the Mets finally succombed to the Braves losing game #6 10-9 and the series 4 to 2. They went down 5-0 after Al Leiter didn't have the stuff pitching on only 3 days rest. It looked very bleak but the Mets came back closing the gap to 5-3. The Braves then pulled ahead 7-3 and it looked bad again. They came back once again with 4 runs to knot the game 7-7 then pull ahead 8-7. Atlanta came back to tie it in the 8th. The Mets then pulled ahead 9-8 with a run in the 10th but Armando Benitez couldn't hold the lead as Atlanta tied it again 9-9. The Braves won the game with a bases loaded walk by Kenny Rogers in the bottom of the 11th to seal the series and go on to face the Yankees in the World Series.
The percentages finally beat the Mets and their rollercoaster season was ended. I think they should all be proud, they played hard and tough and would never say die. They all deserve player of the year awards.
Series MVP!!!
John Olerud 3 HR, 12 RBI in the series.
Congratulations to all the Mets players for a great season and wonderful Postseason!!!
Good Luck Next Year!!!
The New York Yankees swept the World Series in four games from the Braves. Thus proving the Braves suck and the National League Championship should have gone to the Mets.
The World Series would have been so much better had the loser Braves decided to roll over in the NLCS like they did in the World Series. Congratulations to the Yanks and thank you for exposing the Braves as the *PUSSIES* everyone knows they are. Bravo!!!
