Ryko's Rogue Spear Weapon comparison |
In answer to the never-ending question of "which is the best weapon to take", I've done some analysis regarding the weaponry in Rogue Spear, based on a useful chart prepared by noneother than Blog at www.blog.com. |
The answer to the question is, "it depends on your style". There are a few good choices for all-around good guns, but I'd prefer to let the following charts speak for themselves. Essentially, the weapons are ranked in order of best to worst for each category, and where there are ties, they are indicated by common colours (green is good, and red is poor). |
It's also important to keep in mind that ranking the weapons like this doesn't show a true indication of how much better one weapon is over another. The difference between the first place and second place weapon may be marginal, while the third place weapon may be in a definitively lower class. |

Summary: |
The USP .40 appears to be the best pistol for the most common of Rogue Spear multiplayer situations, where your rifle's out of bullets and you switch to the pistol instead of reloading. In these situations you're dancing about trying to get a shot, and the USP40 has the best accuracy and resizing rate of them all. The .50 caliber Desert Eagle is consistently poor, its only saving grace being an incredibly powerful bullet. But with the changes to the ammunition model, normal pistol rounds are pretty effective, so it's not as much of a factor. The silenced USP45 is the best "covert" pistol, though you'll want to make sure you're not moving when you use it. The middle of the road pistol is the .357 Desert Eagle. My choice in this category, however, is the USP40. |

Summary: |
This category really shows off the fact that the best weapon really relies on how you use it. If you're a player who runs first and asks questions later, rarely pausing to breathe, you will want one of the shorter weapons like the Skorpion, Uzi or MP5K-PDW. They come to aim quickly and keep a nice tight reticle, as well as having respectable rates of fire. Conversely, if you stalk your opponents and zoom in to take them out at range, you may want the MP5/10SD or the MP5SD5. It has the best stopped accuracy and zoom range, at the price of being not as effective on the move. They also are excellent at controlling recoil. The UMP series of submachineguns is not on my favourites list because they have such a poor rate of fire. The middle of the road submachineguns are the MP5A4 and the MP5/10A2, which offer a good compromise between accuracy, recoil control and reticle resize rates. As I'd only use an SMG for assaulting purposes, my choice in this category is the MP5K-PDW. |

Summary: |
The differences between weapons are as similar here as for SMGs. The heavier, longer weapons are exceptionally accurate and zoom in well, but have a problem when it comes to aiming - it takes a long time for the reticle to settle down. The M-14 is the king of the heavy rifles, good for people who want a mix of zoom and bullet power, with the capcity to blaze off lots of rounds in a short time. Its major problems are accuracy on the move, and aiming. For close-quarter combat, the victor is the Steyr AUG, hampered only by poor accuracy when stopped. On the move though, it handles like a submachinegun. A mix of the two worlds of distance and close-quarter combat can be seen in the Enfield L85A1 and the HK G36K, which offer excellent zoom rates but good movement accuracies. The middle of the road assault rifle is the AK74, which has no particular advantages or disadvantages, except for the "weakest" of the rifle bullets. It should be noted that any rifle bullet is going to have a nasty effect to anyone, regardless. One extra note - the AK47 has the best recoil control. The reticle hardly grows at all when you hold down the trigger. In this category, my choice does vary, but if I didn't know anything about the map, I'd probably go with the Steyr AUG. |

Summary: |
Not many choices here, and the clear winner is the SPAS-12. While its full-auto capacity is questionably useful (you can fire about as quickly by repeated taps of the trigger on semi-auto) its accuracy, recoil control and clip size make it a much more useful combat shotgun. However, the Benelli does have one attractive feature - it can use slugs, whereas the SPAS-12 seems to be limited to batons or buckshot. For this simple reason, the Benelli is my choice in this category. |

Summary: |
It's important to keep in mind that any rifle can be used as a sniper rifle; some of the "poor man's" sniper rifles include the G36K, M-14, G3A3 and M-16A2, because of their excellent zoom ratings. In some cases they are even more effective than conventional sniper rifles as their resize values are significantly better. But, you just can't beat a sniper rifle for zoom rating, and in that regard, the Barrett M82A1 is the king of all weapons. It also boasts the most powerful bullet and a 10-round clip (matched by the Dragunov), but as soon as you leave the 5.56mm bullet category, any bullet is going to be almost instantly lethal when you hit centre of mass. It's a bit ludcrious to think of a sniper rifle in terms of moving accuracy - they're best when you're standing still - but the Walther 2000 is the best in this regard, and also with its resize value. If you need to acquire a target quickly, this is the rifle for it, and its 300 WInchester Magnum round is nothing to sneeze at. It's my choice in this category. |
