Where to take Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea, while a British tradition, is alive and well in NYC. If you're hungry, and looking for something different, then this is your ticket. In the US it is looked upon as a feminine thing to do; but anyone faced with such tasty scones, sandwiches, and cookies (not to mention the tea) can be a convert. The hotels offer an elegant (and more pricey) experience; but don't overlook the independent tea houses and the museums. Take note that the hotels tend to honor the traditional tea hours (3PM-5PM), while some other tea houses will serve formal tea anytime. There are many variations on the theme. Before going, check the website or call for details. A very helpful website is TeaMap. This website will help you find tearooms around the country with contact information, hours, and reviews. You can read an interesting CNN article about tea in NYC (from 2004).
