Nicholas Cleobury is a highly versatile conductor who has established a considerable reputation in the concert hall, opera house and recording studio. He studied with Sir Adrian Boult and was assistant to numerous leading conductors, notably Bernstein, Boulez and Haitink. His sense of period style was nurtured early as conductor and continuo player with original instruments. He is currently Music Director of the Britten Sinfonia, a major new force in British musical life, whose CDs of works by Britten, Richard Rodney-Bennett, Bridge, Headington, Mozart and Richard Strauss have been highly acclaimed, the Strauss winning a Gramophone award.

Nicholas says: "I want to work with all the orchestral personnel, but especially with the Principal Conductor, to develop the orchestra as an integral part of the musical community of Huddersfield, especially in the eyes and ears of younger people. We need to increase their involvement in its music-making in every possible way, and I am delighted to be participating."

Huddersfield Philharmonic Society is a registered charity.
