HORNICONNAME: French Horn, a member of the brass family

HORNICONCLASSIFICATION: Aerophone: an instrument that produces sound by vibrations in a column of air.

HORNICONSIZE: Vairies; the total length of the tube is between 9 and 12 ft.

HORNICONRANGE: Three and a half octaves.

HORNICONORIGIN: The French horn was adapted from the hunters horn. The crooks were added in the 1700's, and valves were added in the early 1800's.

HORNICONNOTE: Because of the difficulty in mastering both the extreme high and low notes, players specialize in one range or another.
