The HOME of HORNS
Other S. & S. Hunter sites brought to you by GF-DOS:
NAME: French Horn, a member of the brass family
CLASSIFICATION: Aerophone: an instrument that produces sound by vibrations in a column of air.
SIZE: Vairies; the total length of the tube is between 9 and 12 ft.
RANGE: Three and a half octaves.
ORIGIN: The French horn was adapted from the hunters horn. The crooks were added in the 1700's, and valves were added in the early 1800's.
NOTE: Because of the difficulty in mastering both the extreme high and low notes, players specialize in one range or another.
