I think I've found a new friend. She's a sweet woman who's been posting in our newsgroup, and feeling rather beaten down by the world, without the energy to keep fighting. I've had those kinds of times in my life too, and know it feels. Having a supportive friend can really help at times like those, even if they are just a sympathetic ear. That's what I'm trying to be, and offering support when and where I can. I wish I could reach through the wires and give her a real hug, instead of ones typed into an e-mail, or wrap a comfy blanket 'round her shoulders and give her a soothing cup of tea.
One of my storytime personas -- actually, Lisana herself -- is a sort of healer... a gentle soul who hurts for others in need, and helps wherever she can. Lisana has an extra talent though, a little magical something extra that helps her mend broken spirits. I wish that somehow I had a bit of that talent; I could think of so many people I'd love to reach out and touch, and help along the path of healing. When I was younger, I used to imagine that I could, and I suppose that's where Lis was born in the first place.
If it seems a little odd to have me refer to Lis in the third person, I apologize. She was an extension of myself, and who and what I wish I could be, in many ways. Now that I think about it, maybe that's why I borrowed her name when I started this journal; it makes an odd sort of sense, doesn't it?
Anyway, I stayed online a bit later than I intended, writing email to my newfound friend, and it's time for me to turn out the lights and sleep. One thing though, before I go.
If you're feeling down, and in need of a little encouragement, try this...
- Place your right hand on your left shoulder.
- Place your left hand on your right shoulder.
- Squeeze gently, and consider yourself hugged.
Someone out there cares... you're never entirely alone, and if you need a friendly ear, or a shoulder to cry on, and don't know where to turn, here's my mailbox.
