Rosie's Ramblings

March 4, 2001

Hello Out There,

Today is the beginning of a three-day weekend for me. I celebrated by taking a day trip to some area antique places. I ran across an old AAA needle book. I probably would never have bought this one off eBay, but since I found it in person, I couldn’t resist. The caricature woman driver is kind of cute. It was made in West Germany and has a one-digit phone number prefix (I remember those from my childhood), so I’m guessing this one dates from the 60’s. It is a bonus this month…out of the store and into the museum within hours.

This month I am adding two of my favorites. The first is kin to the one I have always called “Snood Lady”. It is marked “Germany’ and has nice lion packets inside. The back is just as pretty as the front. The next is a book from J. A. Coates & Sons. It is titled Sewing Society and inside there is an advertisement for George W. Beal, (dealer in dry goods, groceries, boots, shoes, clothing, hoops, hoop poles, and country produce) of Clinton, Maine. Does a hoop pole have something to do with a hoop skirt? On the back the picture is the same, but it also says, “In your time of need, it is NEEDLEss to look for anything better than me". The inside contains an owl packet. The book itself is not marked with country of origin. I think these two are masterpieces.

I hope you also have time to view another Home Needle Case . On the back there is an advertisement for Life and Casualty Company of Tennessee. It is in the same family with another home case that I have. There are probably more in the series. I would love to see the others, if anyone has them.

Last, but not least, is Renown. I have included some information with the picture of this book. Since it is military in nature, I am placing it on my Army & Navy page.

The end of winter is in sight. I am so looking forward to April antique shows and spring yard sales. I know…I’m wishing my life away. Finally some eBay sales worth mentioning: Air Mail & Silver Flyer - $94 and Lucky (the Lindbergh book I featured last month) - $60. Wow!

Since I have gone to the thumbnail picture format, I have noticed that sometimes all of the pictures on a page will not load at one time. If that happens to you, just right click on the red X, then click on show picture. I don't know why this happens or I'd fix it. As always, I'd love to hear from YOU. Write me at rosierider@yahoo.com,

Rosie
