'World War 3' is the name of the Marvel / WildStorm crossover in which the 'Heroes Reborn' pocket dimension and the WildStorm Universe (part of the Image Comics Universe at the time) merged in the Negative Zone. The four-issue story takes place at the close of Marvel's 'Heroes Reborn' line (issue #13 of each participating series), and coincides with the WildStorm mini-series 'Fire From Heaven', during which the WSU temporarily fades out of existence.
Upon
it's creation, this universe' Earth is already in a
planet-wide conflict (World War 3), involving an alliance between the alien Skrulls and Daemonites, and their
human ally Dr. Doom.
While no true character amalgams took place, there were many
'situational amalgams' in the story. The android Spartan & the Scarlet
Witch (shown below) fill the roles of
Spartan & Voodoo from WildC.A.T.s as well as
Vision & Scarlet Witch in the Avengers. In the Fantastic Four, the Thing
& Human Torch are replaced by Maul (WildC.A.T.s)
& Burnout (GEN13), and the line-up of the WildC.A.T.s
includes Goliath (Avengers) & Gorgon (Inhumans).
A full breakdown of the teams present in this reality can be found in the
Characters section of this page.
Please
note that the Heroes Reborn comics were produced for Marvel Comics by WildStorm
Studios, owned at the time by Jim Lee and associated with Image Comics, not DC
Comics. Thus the creator-owned
characters of the WildStorm Universe appeared courtesy of Mister Lee, and no WildStorm,
Image, or DC logos appear on the covers.

The
following timeline represents the evolution of events within the merged reality
of World War 3. It is important to note
that the events leading up to the creation of this world are not included. The temporary destruction of the Heroes
Reborn universe, and the consequences of the FIRE FROM HEAVEN saga within the
WildStorm facet of the Image Universe, are factors that fall outside the flow
of time for those who exist in the new world, save for Deathblow.
Also, events which occurred in the Heroes Reborn Universe that carry over to World War 3 do not correspond chronologically, as the war has been going on for longer than the heroes in the Heroes Reborn Universe have been active.
Entries in RED are taken
from the WildStorm Universe, included here to match similar events known to
occur in the WORLD WAR 3 Universe.
Entries in GREEN are taken from the Heroes
Reborn Universe, included here to match similar events known to occur in the
WORLD WAR 3 Universe.
Entries in BLUE are taken from the mainstream
Marvel Universe, included here to match similar events known to occur in the
WORLD WAR 3 Universe.
