Celebrating Atlantic Canada's Success Stories PEI's Martha MacIsaac

To have a successful entertainment career for 12 years would be a positive feat for almost anyone, but when you are only 16, it's all the more remarkable. Martha MacIsaac came onto the stage at age 4 impersonating Elvis Presley at a senior citizen's home. By the time she was 11, she had captivated national audiences as Emily in theCBC series, Emily of New Moon, a role she would continue to star in for another four years. Most recently she played Wendy in the musical stage production of Peter Pan at Toronto's Elgin Theatre. In between, Martha has acted in everything from the Christmas Carol, in which she played Tiny Tim, to several of Lucy Maud Montgomery's plays. At age 11, she was named "Best Performer" at PEI's Queens County Music Festival. Her ongoing commitments include being a voice in the cartoon series Erkhart about a mouse family that lives in PEI. And, of course, her high school play commands much of her attention these days. To say the least, this Charlottetown native is a very busy teenager. Throughout her acting career she has juggled school, acting and extra curricular activities such as rugby with the same type of independent and passionate spirit that embodies her well-known character of Emily. And why does Martha maintain such a busy schedule? "Because it's so much fun. You meet so many people and try so many new things." Learning to fly for the Peter Pan production has been her most memorable acting experience so far--something she probably wouldn't have done in everyday life. Martha likes the immediacy of theatre acting, but prefers working in films right now because of the variety of experiences that it gives her. Although her future is undecided, Martha would like to expand her theatrical repertoire to perhaps include directing. Why not? After all, she has already conquered film,stage and singing. This is why Aliant has chosen Martha MacIsaac as one of Atlantic Canada's greatest success stories.
